About Power Value Index

Power Value Index is the financial intelligence vertical of the AS400System.com family of IBM i and AS/400 hardware research sites. Where the parent site and its generation-specific subdomains (Power7 through Power12) explain what each IBM Power machine is, this site is built to answer a narrower, harder question: what is it actually worth, and what should you pay.

The Power Value Index

The centerpiece of this site is the Power Value Index (PVI), an independently developed 0-100 composite score combining performance, capacity, remaining useful life, software economics, market price, and value retention. It is not an IBM-published metric, and we say so on every page that uses it.

Our approach to sourcing

Every dataset on this site cites its sources: IBM's own product pages, Redbooks, and end-of-service announcements where they exist, and named third-party pricing/reseller reporting (IT Jungle, Alta Technologies, Spectra, Flagship Technologies, Midland Information Systems) where IBM does not publish a figure directly. Where an input has no citable public source -- most notably resale value retention, which IBM does not publish -- we label it plainly as a Krisada Estimate and explain the modeling assumption, rather than presenting a guess as fact.
